Building My Studio

Evolution

Starting in 2016, it took some time and iterations to optimize the room acoustics. In the beginning, my mixes sounded good in the studio and bad in the car. After listening in my car, I returned to my studio with a 10-bullet-list of improvements – over and over again which was quite frustrating.

Today, I can achieve good mixes in the studio that translate well to any other system.

The key success factors:

  • Watching tons of YouTube videos
  • The right speakers – moving from Adam F7 to Focal Shape made such a big difference
  • No sub woofers!
  • Bass traps in every corner
  • Professional absorbers instead of foam absorbers
  • Measurement of room acoustics with optimization of speaker and listening positions
  • ARC2.5 room correction software – for the final optimization
